Agua con sal / Salt Water

Pedro Pérez Rosado (2005)

Puerto Rico, Spain

Genre: Drama

Story about a young Cuban girl who arrives in Spain supposedly on a scholarship but who soon becomes an "illegal" immigrant. As she befriends a young Spanish female co-worker, the film becomes a soursweet tale of female support and resilience against a background of hardship and abuse (as an immigrant, but also, as in the case of her friend, as a woman and as a worker).

Keywords: Spanish immigration film; Spanish Americans (Cubans) in Spain; female immigration; female friendship; male violence.
