Migration in Spanish Film: The Making of Aguaviva
Professor Isabel Santaolalla, a member of our Research Network, will be part of a round table discussion with Catalan filmmaker Ariadna Pujol. This event is scheduled for 30 May 2008 at 6pm and is part of the UCL Film Studies Graduate Programme. The discussion will be preceded by a film screening of Aguaviva at 4pm. Panel on Turkish German cinema at the SCMS Conference in Philadelphia
Daniela Berghahn, leader of the Migrant and Diasporic Cinema Network, convened a panel entitled 'Turkish German Dialogues on Screen' at this year's SCMS (Society for Cinema and Media Studies conference) in Philadelphia. The panel brought together several speakers who had already contributed to the first Conference organised by the Network in Oxford in 2006 and who all share a particular interest in New Turkish German Cinema and in current trends in Turkish film culture.

Network participant Carrie Tarr curated ‘Beur is beautiful’ film season in New York
In November 2007, Carrie Tarr, an internationally leading scholar on Maghrebi-French filmmaking, curated a retrospective entitled 'BEUR IS BEAUTIFUL: MAGHREBI-FRENCH FILMMAKING' in New York. The film programme, which will go on tour, showcases landmark films such as Tea in the Harem, Cheb, Memories of Immigration as well as more recent releases such as Where the Fig Trees Grow or Voisins, Voisins.

AHRC showcases Migrant and Diasporic Cinema Project
In the latest issue (Autumn 2007, no. 7) of Podium the AHRC devotes a two-page case study to our Research Network, reporting about the conference on 'The Industrial Context' organised by our Research Network in January 2007. Collaboration with AHRC Network on ‘Creolizing Europe’
Our Research Network will be contributing to a major international conference in Manchester, organised by another Research Network funded by the AHRC under the Diasporas, Migration & Identities Programme, Creolizing Europe. We will be presenting our interim findings on a panel devoted exclusively to Migrant and Diasporic Cinema in Contemporary Europe on Saturday, 8 September. First impressions from our second conference
The second conference organised by our Research Network examined The Industrial Context of Migrant and Diasporic Cinema in Contemporary Europe. The event provided an excellent platform for an exchange of ideas and perspectives between academia and the film industry. Seven distinguished speakers, including diversity adviser Parminder Vir, OBE, filmmakers John Akomfrah and Abdelkrim Bahloul and German film producer Ralph Schwingel attracted an international audience.
